About Hog Branch
Hog Branch is the online home of Austin musician, Rick Watson, who moved here from NYC in 2004. Rick has recorded and performed with some of the top Americana musicians in Texas, touring the US and Europe with both doghouse and electric basses.
Currently, Rick plays bass for the country/western swing band, Horse Opera, and for the Mandy Marie Luke Trio (featuring Tele wizard John Stannard. He often plays with the jump blues act, The Stargazers, along with other local and touring acts. Rick played upright bass for Jesse Dayton for several years, and he was a featured zombie in Dayton's horror film, Zombex. Ol' Hog Branch (as Rick is often called) has recently appeared on stage or on record with noted Texas artists Rick Broussard (Two Hoots and a Holler), Bill Rice, Jarrod Birmingham, George Devore, Elsa Cross, New Mystery Girl, Kem Watts, Dane Sterling, Keith Davis, Dean Seltzer. Rick has also worked with award-winning composer-director Content Love Knowles on musical theater projects at Vortex Theater in Austin.
Rick collaborated with singer-songwriter Jared Lightfoot on the Wicked Brew Band's album Down South, released by Smith Entertainment and their debut single, I'm Alright, reached Number 16 on the Texas charts. On the writing front, Rick is currently working on original music for his play, Lilies & Latches, which he hopes to develop on the stage in Austin next year.
Rick and his wife, Angela, were writing partners long before they got hitched. Songwriting styles cover lots of ground: from Christmas tunes to N'awlins-style funk, as well as soundtrack and commercial music. (Click on the Download Music tab above to download samples!)
AJ is also a talented graphic designer and visual artist. She is co-founder of Sugar Pixie, a design firm which creates children's products for companies around the world. Her work was featured in a gallery in Tokyo in December 2008, and her designs have appeared on cards, gift paper, textiles, and children's books!
